Summer of Flight

Skyler's Pinewood Derby Race

Sky had his pinewood derby today. we were a little worried because we had an accident with the super-glue the night before and we were afraid he couldn't compete. The had spare wheels and axels, so not to worry.

There were a lot of boys entered and we didn't expect to do well, so our expectations were low. I told Sky the fun part was building the car, learning to use the tools and then competing.

He didn't place,but he wasn't upset at all.

But he did win a trophy for the funniest designed car...I thought he should have one for the best looking car, but then, I'm not 9 years old...

Learning how to hover.

I got Skyler an Air Hog Reflex Helicopter as a present for getting good grades in School. He'd flown it once before, but I thought he was really getting the hang of it.
Then he put the power to it, took it about 30' into the air and got it stuck in a tree...
We got out the ladder, taped two brooms together and knocked it down. That was all the flying we did tonight.

Lens Tests

Since it was a balmy 65 F out today, I thought it appropriate to do some lens testing. I'm after a certain look for a project I'm doing later this year.

The top row is: Canonet GIII 40mm@ f1.7, Contax 45mm@2.0.
The bottom row is: Canon 85mm @2.8, Contax 90mm@2.8.

I didn't have a chance to test my old nikkors, but i think they'll provide an image closer to what i'm looking for this project.

Clouds

Going wouldn't be prudent.

We were supposed to go to Columbus, GA this afternoon. My boss called me last night and asked to me keep a close eye on the weather and to keep him informed.
I called him at 11 and told him the forecasts didn't look good. He came into the office at 1 and we both poured over the weather reports and radar images (pictured-from the National Weather Service).
He cancelled the flight. We'll try again tomorrow, but the weather is not supposed to be any better down there.
