Ford Museum Boeing 40

The Boeing Model 40, example shown here located at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI, was restored by my friend Glenn. It's a static restoration, that's what they wanted.
I would love to see it fly.

Leaving to go to work

I left today for a week of flying. This time it was really hard to say goodbye as my daughter kept giving me hugs.

Looking for the squeak.

Glenn had the OX-5 unhooked and out of the airplane in less than a day. When I stopped by today, he was starting to tear it down to find out what was making the squealing/binding sound we were hearing.

The Zenith Flies.

Glenn successfully flew the Zenith Z6a on Monday. It 's the first time is flown since the Beatles were here, 1964. He plans on taking it to the EAA Fly-In held in Oskosh, Wi. this summer.

Engine Maintenance

A bearing is squeaking. We don't know if it's not getting oil, bad right out of the box as Glenn replaced them all or something else. Glenn is going to find out though.

Out of its Coma

My friend Glenn has been working on a huge, rare biplane that he restored for the late John Mullen almost 4 years ag. It's a 1929 Zenith Z6a, one of 7 built and the only survivor. Here, he test runs the engine for the first time in 3 years. He plans on flying the airplane wednesday.

Kermit's Mustangs

Having a free Saturday down in Naples, Florida, Andy and I decided to drive up to Fantasy of Flight in Polk City. When we arrived, we were surprised to find out that today was their Mustangs & Mustangs Gathering. A whole bunch of Ford Mustangs were there as well as two North American P-51 Mustang Fighters from World War II. The owner of FOF is Kermit Weeks, pictured above with his ultra-rare "C" model. He flew both of his planes making it well-worth the 3 hour drive up there.

Catered Dinner

We got back from Louisville at dinner time tonight. I wasn't really hungry, so I took the leftover aircraft catering back to my hotel room to eat. It wasn't bad.

Out my Hotel Window-Boston

Airport Hilton, Room 715

Boston at Night

This view of Boston is taken from the window at the end of the hallway in my hotel. It was drizzling tonight, providing neat reflections in the pavement and the grey, overcast sky.

Headed Home!

We left Scottsdale at 7:30 and got back to Detroit at 2:00 on Friday. I checked the flights and couldn't grab an earlier one, so we went to the airport at 3:00. I grabbed a late lunch at the airport Chili's and then waited at the gate for my flight to leave. It was towards the end of Spring Break, they were oversold. They offered a free round-trip ticket, but I've been on the road 11 days and just want to go home.

All that remains

I found these Saguaro remains in a park outside Scottsdale. You can see that all that remains is the Cactus's internal structure.
